Welp, it’s been over a month since I last posted. A post where I promised to keep you all updated with school work. A promise that I have obviously failed to keep. I have been learning SO much I honestly don’t even know how to write a blog post about it all. I also haven’t been taking pictures at school because there are strict pictures taking policies, and we aren’t allowed to have our phones in class. Some students have been able to snap a few here and there when our instructor permits, so I will try to get my hands on a few of those for you guys to see.
So far we have covered a lot of basics cooking techniques, as well as a lot of fun health principles and ingredients. Yesterday, for example we learned how to make Seitan (Say-Tan or Say-Tahn, a vegetarian source of protein from wheat gluten) from scratch, and today we are learning how to cook with sea vegetables. We will learn a broad spectrum from how to make tofu from scratch to basic stock principles this week. I have never felt so busy my entire life, but it honestly feels amazing to be doing something that I am so passionate about.
I cannot even tell you how much I am learning! I have known the health food industry is something I am interested in, but only now that I can see how engaged I become around the topic, and the wealth of knowledge that I am actually able to reiterate, that I am actually extremely passionate. Passionate to a level that I can honestly say I have never experienced before.
Although I do have reservations (pun) about the future, they are mainly tied up in the many variables I think about when contemplating where life will take me. I am still a student and get very nervous about the things to come, but I can confidently say that Confucius was right when he said “if you pick a job that you love, you’ll never work a day in your life”.
Thanks for sticking with me and being so loyal to The Gourmetour. I can’t wait to share with you the progress I will make in the next year.
