Today’s post is a product review!!
Last night I finished off the last of the pint my roommate Missy and I purchased at the grocery store a couple of weeks ago. I had been eyeing Turtle Mountain’s Purely Decadent Coconut Based
ice cream for a while now and Missy gave me the encouragement I needed to give it a go!
I first off want to start by saying that I have not been paid or compensated in any way by Turtle Mountain. This product review is original and based on my own personal opinion. I actively purchased this product without the help of any third party.
I must admit that I was really skeptical to try it, considering I have never really had anything except froyo and “real” ice cream before. I am so glad I did.
I really enjoyed this product and I will for sure be purchasing it again.
This company is a dairy alternative food company. You may have seen them before through their “So Delicious” soy milks and products. They also specialize in soy-free or dairy-free products. In order to do so they use coconut milk and coconut water as their replacement. I decided to go for the coconut based product line, named “Purely Decadent”because the base sounded most appealing for an ice cream.
I picked up the coconut flavor, as shown above, because I figured that if I was giving it my first go I should go for the original.
The frozen treat is kind of flakey, almost resembling frozen ice in terms of texture. I wouldn’t use creamy to describe it entirely, but the flavors also do ignited your mouth to recognize that the coconut milk is creamy. I prefer my ice cream to be a bit warmer so that the edges start to melt. After allowing this to happen the texture of normal creamy ice cream was definitely there.
I don’t want to confuse you by saying it resembled shaved iced and have you assume this is not really like ice cream at all, that is not the case. This is the best alternative ice cream product I have tasted.
The best part about this flavor in particular is that it has real flakes of coconut. The added texture of the coconut provided a “crunch” that was subtle and sweet. It was refreshing, light and tasty. Everything I look for in a cold dessert. Also, don’t be fooled by the coconut. The flavor is well represented but it is not overwhelming, like the fake stuff found in pina cooladas or tropical drinks. You will not have a bite and feel like your eating a frozen sugar drink. You may find yourself daydreaming about a beach somewhere though. That’s not a bad thing.
I really don’t know what to compare it to, other than itself.
I guess that means you should try it.
I enjoyed it with a number of different toppings, but my favorite to date was for sure walnut pieces and Justin’s Maple Almond Butter.
My best friend Katie always orders the same 3 white colored toppings on her froyo. It has been righteously dubbed the “White Heat”, “White-out”, and “Blizzard” due to the coconut, mochi and white yogurt chips. I think that would be delicious on top of the coconut ice cream as well.
Conclusion: Go out and get some!
Try it out and let me know what you think!
Thanks for stopping by!
