Simple Eats Presents: Tasty Ways to Refuel After A Workout

Hi Gourmetour readers! I’m Alexa, and I blog over at Simple Eats, where I gab on and on about baking, cooking and living a healthy lifestyle! When Jenn contacted me about doing a guest post for her, I was more than excited; I love Jenn’s blog!
Since I love working out and staying healthy, but also love food, I figured I’d incorporate the two in my post. I enjoy getting’ my sweat on as much as the next gal, but really, what is the ultimate prize for all of that hard work that makes it worth it? FOOD! Now, I’m not suggesting running a mile and then eating a batch of chocolate chip cookies (although I would probably love you more if you did that), but rather fueling your body with snacks and meals that taste delicious but are also supplying your body with nutrients!
I usually come home from the gym and want to eat my arm. I’ve learned to slow down and look around my kitchen to prepare a meal that will leave my body and taste buds satisfied. It isn’t easy when the quickest thing usually sounds best at the time!
Here are some ideas I’ve created!
1. Smoothies
I know, I know, these are blowing up the blogo-sphere, but when made with the right ingredients, these can be the best pre or post workout fuel there is! 
My Favorite Smoothie:
1 c. unsweetened almond milk
1 handful fresh spinach
½ scoop chocolate protein powder
1 heaping tbsp. dark chocolate cocoa powder
3 large ice cubes
1 frozen banana
1 c. frozen berry mix
2. Muffins
Even if you workout in the evening, who can turn down a muffin?! I’m a big breakfast all day any day kind of person, so hand me a stack of pancakes or an apple-filled muffin at 8 p.m, and I’m a happy girl. These are great for breakfast crumbled over yogurt, or for right when you get home from the gym at night and you want to eat the contents of your fridge. It’ll hold you over ‘til dinner’s done!
3. Pasta
Pasta is one of my favorite meals. I love how comforting and filling a big bowl o’ noodles can be! Pasta is also a great way to recover from a workout. I top whole wheat noodles with homemade sauce, a little olive oil and parmesan, or a bowl filled with yummy ingredients, like this one!
